One day tour - Argolis
The full day tour of Argolis is a trip to some of the most important archaeological sites of Greece, in the most characteristic
Greek-Mediterranean scenery of Peloponnese.
Leaving Loutraki behind and driving through the hills of Corinth, we’ll arrive at Argolis, where we’ll first visit the archaeological
site of Mycenae.
Mycenae, ‘Rich in Gold’, was the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon, who dominated the Aegean Sea after the distraction of the Minoan
Empire. The Palace, symbol of power of the Mycenaean rulers, was protected by the huge and famous Cyclopean Walls, and was reached by a large ramp beginning at the Lions Gate. Outside this fortress lie the impressive
beehive tombs including that ascribed to Agamemnon known also as the Treasury of Atreas.
After Mycenae, we’ll drive through Argos and among endless farms
of orange trees to the picturesque town of Nafplion, first capital of the Greek State in the early 1830s. The Old Town is lovely, with old mansions and paved paths. The whole town gives a Noeclassical vibe that attracts all visitors, all
year around. Lunch at a traditional tavern.
From Nafplion, driving through Argolis, we are going to visit Epidaurus, famous for its ancient theatre. The view, aesthetics and acoustics of
the theatre are breathtaking. It’s still in use today and hosts carefully selected theatrical plays, concerts, and festivals during the summer. For an actor to perform in the Theatre of Epidaurus, is considered
the greatest honour.
